You are a dedicated and detail-oriented professional with an 'A' level standard or equivalent education. Experience in a local government environment, particularly in debt management and accounts receivable within a large multi-functional organisation, is essential. You should have excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, and a high level of numeracy with a solid understanding of spreadsheets.
What the Job Involves
As a Debt Recovery Assistant, you will work within the Finance team at the Civic Centre, High Street, Esher, under the guidance of the Debt Recovery Officer. Your responsibilities include assisting in the collection of outstanding debt across three main areas: Local Taxation, Housing Benefits Overpayments, and Sundry Debt Recovery. Specific duties involve controlling and reconciling the system, pursuing the recovery of debts according to the Corporate Debt Policy, and managing customer enquiries and payment negotiations. You will also work closely with external debt collection agencies and manage direct debits while maintaining user manuals. High standards of conduct, integrity, and confidentiality are expected, and you must adhere to equality and health and safety policies as well as participate in talent development programmes.
